Used my many, but still use at your own risk.
SOC-Meter Firmware Versions
Operation:
Tap the Red push-button to switch to the next Mode (group of variables).
Tap the Black push-button to switch to the next variable in the selected group.
F1.09
Download F1.09 Hex File (zipped)
This version:
1. Adds a third variable to Mode 1 to display "Real SOC".
2. Adds Mode 3, to NOT display variables while Logging.
3. Allows Mode 2 to display Amps >= 100.0 while charging.
4. Speeds up the Power-On boot-up process.
Mode 1: GID and SOC Data Mode
V1: GID-Percent: Shows the CAN-bus "GID" value as a percent of 281 (for example, " 81.1").
V2: GID-Raw: Shows the same "GID" value in its "raw" form (roughly " 0" to " 281").
V3: Real-SOC: Shows the "Real-SOC" percent with a "C" prefix (roughly "C 0.0" to "C95.0").
Mode 2: Battery Pack-Output Mode
V1: Amps-Out (for example, " 27.3"), where negative values are Amps-In (charging).
V2: Volts (for example, "387.3"), where values are typically between 300 and 400.
V3: Power-Out in kW (for example, "P24.3"), or Regen and Charging (for example, "C 8.3").
Mode 3: LEAF Logging System Mode
V1: Disp "LLS " while logging to give the uP more time (if needed) to process CAN messages.
F1.08

This version:
1. Adds Mode 2, to display three Battery Pack variables.
Mode 1: GID Data Mode
V1: GID-Percent: Shows the CAN-bus "GID" value as a percent of 281 (for example, " 81.1").
V2: GID-Raw: Shows the same "GID" value in its "raw" form (roughly " 0" to " 281").
Mode 2: Battery Pack-Output Mode

V2: Volts (for example, "387.3"), where values are typically between 300 and 400.
V3: Power-Out in kW (for example, "P24.3"), or Regen and Charging (for example, "C 8.3").
F1.07
Download F1.07 Hex File (zipped)
This firmware displays the LEAF's GID (presumed "Fuel Quantity") number, in two formats.
The Red push-button does nothing.
Mode 1: GID Data Mode
V1: GID-Percent: Shows the CAN-bus "GID" value as a percent of 281 (for example, " 81.1").
V2: GID-Raw: Shows the same "GID" value in its "raw" form (roughly " 0" to " 281").
Note: The same firmware should be capable of doing one-buss Logging of CAN messages
(when used with my free companion CAN-Do program, available on
My CAN-Do Page ).
SOC-Meter Kit
Our SOC-Meter Kit usually available in limited quantities, currently
for $170.00 plus $20 for insured (usually UPS) shipping in USA-48.
Options: Logging Port Kit, Slot for the Display, All Holes Drilled, Log-Port Hole
- Blue:
- Red:
- Yellow (almost Orange): (OK, but only by special order).
- Green (apparently yellow-green), which too dim to be usable.
The in-forum Assembly Instructions are not fully complete or "debugged",
so please use with caution. The Instructions here (below) are much better.
A Wiring Diagram, a Hole Template, and Log-Port Installation (PDFs) are available below.
Please look over these documents carefully before you order.
Also, please ask any questions if the details or intent is not perfectly clear to you.
The Kits should only be purchased by those who have the necessary skills.
Fully constructed SOC-Meters are available by order.
These are currently constructed to order:
$280.00 plus $20 insured shipping.
Optinal Logging Port, add $30.
----------
Payment:
You may send an appropriate amount via PayPal, even if you do NOT have a PayPal account.
Usually you need to add a PayPal Fee that I get stuck paying.
You can arrange to pay COD, perhaps at our SoCal LEAF Gatherings, and it saves shipping.
----------
I am trying to get these Meters out for you to experiment with.
Hopefully the SOC-Meter will help you understand or predict your LEAF's behavior better,
especially as you use it and read about the experiences of other users.
This project is provided in an attempt to help you
increase your understanding of the LEAF's CAN buss data.
For private, non-comercial use only.

Links to Download SOC-Meter Project Files:
These links allow you to download the various files that are intended
to contain information and instructions that might be helpful to you
in building the SOC-Meter.
If possible, use the latest (top) version in each section listed below.
-----------
-----------
- The SOC-Meter Logging Port Installation - R3 (pdf)
This slightly-improved document should be used to install the optional Logging Port.
The "SOC-Meter Template with Logging Port (Rev 4)" below has the Hole Template.
- The SOC-Meter Logging Port Installation - R1 (pdf)
This document should be used to add the optional Logging Port to the SOC-Meter.
The "SOC-Meter Template with Logging Port (Rev 2b)" below has the Hole Template.
-----------
- The SOC-Meter Template with Logging Port (Rev 4) (pdf)
This has a change to the earlier Templates, with a smaller the notch at the OBD-In hole.
The optional Log-Port cutout at the Right End of the SOC-Meter's Box is slightly larger,
to better allow a Female 9-pin "D" connector to be mounted on the outside of the box.
The "pilot" holes and the two mounting holes are 1/8 inch diameter.
The 1/16 inch holes for mounting the Filter Holder are shown, in APPROXIMATE position.
- The SOC-Meter Template with Logging Port (Rev 2b) (pdf)
**** Use Rev 4 (above) instead of this version. ****
This has a correction to the Rev 1d and Rev 2a Template, in the size of the OBD-In hole.
Useful for those making the Kit, and optionally wanting to add a connector for CAN-logging.
A new (optional) cutout is shown on the Right End of the SOC-Meter's Box,
to allow a Female 9-pin "D" connector to be mounted on the outside of the box.
The four "pilot" holes and the two mounting holes are 1/8 inch diameter.
There are also other ways of connecting to the RS232 (female 9-pin D connector)
that is inside (unused) on the right-hand end of the AVR-CAN board.
- The SOC-Meter Template with Logging Port (Rev 2a) (pdf)
**** Use Rev 4 (above) instead of this version. ****
This is just an addition to the Rev 1d Template, for an optional connector.
Useful for those making the Kit, and wanting to add a connector for CAN-logging.
A new (optional) cutout is shown on the Right End of the SOC-Meter's Box,
to allow a Female 9-pin "D" connector to be mounted on the outside of the box.

There are also other ways of connecting to the RS232 (female 9-pin D connector)
that is inside (unused) on the right-hand end of the AVR-CAN board.
- The SOC-Meter Hole-Template (Rev 1d) (pdf)
**** Use Rev 4 (above) instead of this version. ****
For those using the Project Box, a suggestion of Hole placement.
Print to scale (see rulers), cut out the "cross", bend and tape
the flaps inside the project box.
Corrected rectangle size for display, added some dimensions.
Improving version Rev 1c: Added Hole Sizes, moved some labels.
-----------
- The SOC-Meter Wiring Diagram (Rev 4) (pdf)
This 22 Sep 2011 version replaces the previous Rev 4 Wiring Diagram document.
This diagram should be used with the new 5-wall Zener diode.
- The SOC-Meter Wiring Diagram (Rev 4) (pdf)
This 22 Sep 2011 version replaces the previous Rev 3 Wiring Diagram document.
This diagram should be used with the older 1-wall Zener diode.
This diagram should be more helpful, and still match the instructions.
